Clinton approaches the wisdom of Anthony de Mello as he describes what he is learning in his own ACT III of personal salvation through golf and good eating:
In these partisan times, Clinton disagrees with Hank Williams Jr.'s view that political enemies shouldn't hit the links together. "Golf brings people together," he said. "Once you actually see somebody as a human being, it becomes impossible to disregard what they have to say, and you might learn something. I think it's really important."
After the formal meeting broke up, Clinton told one last story, about hunting for lost golf balls with his dogs. On walks near his home in New York's Westchester County, he frequently heads for a part of the woods that borders a private golf course.
"I don't know why I do this, because Lord knows I have all the golf balls I can use and the money now to buy more. But I take a little basket with me, and a tool to clean off the balls we find. I've got at least a hundred now," he said with a laugh. "It reminds me of when I was 12."
